How Can Being a Surfer Teach Ocean Conservation?
Kelly Slater is universally recognized as the greatest surfer who has ever lived. Even those who live far away from the sun-kissed surfing world have probably heard of or seen him surfing. He pretty much epitomizes the sport. When he speaks about surfing, people listen.
Mr. Slater has been widely quoted as saying this about surfing: “I think when a surfer becomes a surfer, it’s almost like an obligation to be an environmentalist at the same time.” Truer words have not been spoken.
As surfers, the ocean is our playground. It’s where we find joy, happiness, exercise, peace, release, knowledge, & much, much more. The ocean means different things to everyone, but there is one thing that can be agreed upon by all who play upon its awesome energy…it must be protected. Being a surfer means being responsible to and for other surfers in the water and a dedication to taking care of our coast. That is why in all of our programs we emphasize safety, surfing etiquette, and dynamic lessons about our coastal environment.
In our programs you will catch all the waves your body can stand while our expert coaches fill your mind with knowledge and your spirit with stoke. When you leave our program you will have an understanding of why surfers are surfers and why we have uncompromising commitments to coastal conservation.
At WB surf camp our mission is clear: to cultivate a love and respect for the ocean by building confidence, developing character and inspiring stoke through safety, fun, and learning. We believe camp can show you more than just how to stand up on a surfboard. It can teach you to protect your surroundings, your fellow man & the environment as well as help clean up our beaches and waterways so others can enjoy them as as we do….pristine and perfect!
