Itinerary

Monday

As you head down to the beach and see the crystal blue water, your excitement for camp builds! Today, we’ll take you through “Ground School” on the beach where you’ll learn all about paddling, popping up on the board, and surfing safety measures. Once you’re comfortable with these techniques, we’ll stretch our limbs, getting them nice and loose for our surf session.

We’ll also spend a few minutes discussing wave dynamics and the different types of surf breaks, clarifying that there’s more to being a surfer than just riding a wave. In the water, you’ll have a safe 3:1 camper to instructor ratio, ensuring you receive personalized attention. You’ll paddle out, instructor by your side, giving words of encouragement. When the moment’s right, you’ll feel a push as you glide into the wave, hearing your instructor yell “Pop Up!” You may stand up on your first wave, or it may take you a few tries; every person is different.

Tuesday

Today we’ll have short re-cap of the techniques that you learned in yesterday’s Ground School and a lot of water time. We’ll also host a discussion covering important surf topics like ocean conservation, and surfboard design. You’ll also learn how to properly care for surfboards, how to wax a board and prepare a board for travel.

As you’re out in the waves today, you’ll feel your strength and paddling improve, as your muscle memory begins to take over. You’ll also practice sitting on your board and turning it, a necessary maneuver when surfing. You’re catching more waves today and getting a better grasp on how to read the ocean.

Wednesday

Today’s discussion is about surfboard design, which gives a fascinating glimpse into the history of surfing. We’ll also learn how to properly care for our surfboards, demonstrate how to wax a board, and prepare a board for travel. As your camper is paddling into waves today, you can tell they are getting stronger and their paddling improving. They’re catching more waves today and getting a better grasp on how to read the waves.

Thursday

Your child’s connection to the ocean has gotten so strong, and you’re amazed by all the information that they come home with each day. To enforce this, we’ll split into groups for a short beach cleanup followed by an assessment of what we find where some cool prizes are handed out to the winners. Campers may start paddling into their own waves today as you become more accustomed to timing and positioning. This is one of the more challenging aspects of surfing; the only way to learn it is with experience. Your child’s instructor will provide coaching and encouragement as they work on catching their own waves.

Friday

We’ll round out the week with a discussion on surfing etiquette and the specific rules all surfers should follow. Surfing etiquette is a critical part of surfing that WB Surf Camp emphasizes in all our programs. Your child’s final surf session is truly epic, all smiles and waves! They may even be riding down the line today! You and your camper are now part of the WB Surf Camp Family, and we welcome you back soon for more waves, friends, and fun!

Reviews

Patti, Hampstead, NC – “The staff is very professional and an awesome group of people. They work very well with each other and love what they are doing with the kids. Safety always comes first. They care about the kids they are working with. This was our daughter’s first experience with surfing and she had a great time and learned so much. The fact that every morning the instructors would teach the kids something new and review what they learned from the day before was a great touch. Surfing is not all about getting on the board and surfing there is so much more you do not realize that goes into it. A special shout out to Summer who made this experience extra special for our daughter.”
