Surf Camp Team
Steve Schroeder
Assistant Director/Certified Surf Instructor
Steve has always been drawn to the adventure sport environment. From a young age family trips were always concentrated on camping areas around lakes or oceans. Spending time in these areas developed in Steve a strong passion for mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, fishing, hiking, wakeboarding, and surfing. As soon as Steve got his first driver’s license, he hit the road, looking for places to surf and spending much of his free time in the water.
After high school, Steve enrolled at the University of Alabama. Being landlocked prevented him from continuing to work on his surfing, but he stayed active rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and hiking. At the end of his freshman year of college he landed a job as a water sports instructor in Vermont. That summer Steve lived and worked with international staff, instructing all ages of students. The friendships he established there led to meeting his goal of traveling internationally. To save for future travels he returned to college and began working at The University of Alabama Outdoor Recreation program. At this job he continued to spread environmental conservation awareness and share his passion with other students.
Steve graduated in May 2008 and moved to The Outer Banks, on the coast of North Carolina, where he worked for the summer as a surf instructor. By the end of the summer season Steve had reached his longtime savings goal and took a month-long backpacking and surfing trip along the coastlines of Australia and New Zealand.
