Shaine Ray
Certified Surf Instructor

Shaine was born in the Philippines and was raised on military bases until he was fifteen. At fifteen, he traveled to Hawaii and began exploring alternative lifestyles. Living in alternative lifestyle communities, he learned organic farming, alternative architectural designs, natural remedies, and therapeutic exercises. From this experience, he enrolled in Appalachian State University where he majored in Anthropology and minored in Sustainable Development.

He constantly studied the environment and biology from the pages of Discovery magazine. Developing an interest in bamboo, he went back to the big island of Hawaii. After several months in surfing in Hawaii, Shaine left Appalachian to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Here, he pursued his interest in the ocean and surfing by working Ocean Rescue at Wrightsville Beach.
