Sean Berg
Certified Surf Instructor
As a child Sean always wondered why people would spend fifty-one weeks a year working just so they could spend one week at the beach. He never found the answer to his question, but Sean now makes sure that he spends every week of his life working on the beach. The ocean has always meant freedom to Sean and anytime you see him in the water you will see a smile on his face. In fact, his smile will transform any concern you may have about your journey into the world of surfing into a childish grin of your own.
While attending James Madison University in Virginia, Sean would move to Nags Head, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, during the late spring and summer months. It was there that he learned to surf. The feeling of sliding along a wave has kept him searching for a lifestyle that would allow him to continue “the slide” forever.
Now, almost two decades later, Sean has never stopped surfing. He obtained a Masters in Education from Johns Hopkins University and has been teaching a number of subjects for the past five years. He loves teaching—particularly when he is able to include the ecology, geology, and history of southeastern North Carolina. Sean has become an inspiration to a new generation of surfers who are intent on improving ‘the slide’ while also improving the environment.
Sean spends free time on the beach with his beautiful wife Stephanie and his two incredible children, Noah, the five year old scientist, and Elena, the two year old surfer.
