Ryan Marchi
Certified Surf Instructor
Ryan has spent his entire life in the Carolinas, and he regularly takes advantage of his states’ natural resources. So far, he has snowboarded down Carolina mountains, white-water kayaked through Carolina rivers, and, of course, surfed across warm Carolina beaches. He has guided rafts down many of the east's most technical rivers working as a river guide during the summers. He is currently a part-time fire fighter and EMT.
Ryan was an accomplished skim boarder before he ever laid hands on a surfboard. He was offered skim boarding sponsorships but turned them down to concentrate on school. He now attends the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and is working on a double major in Business Economics and Psychology.
Ryan began surfing when he was 14 and has not stopped since. When he is not studying, you can find him surfing at Wrightsville Beach or Carolina Beach. When the surf goes flat, Ryan can still be found outside enjoying the coastline spear fishing and free diving. One of the things Ryan likes most about the Carolina coast is the way the waves are never the same, which means that if you want to surf, you have to learn to adapt to what the ocean hands you.
He has family who live in California so he often makes cross-country summer trips to the west coast. Although his favorite secret surf spots are located on the remote coasts of a few Caribbean islands, he loves calling the Carolinas home and takes advantage of everything its coasts have to offer. He loves educating others on the benefits of taking care of the coastline so that future generations may enjoy it as he does.
