Surf Camp Team
Mary Adams
Certified Surfing Instructor
Mary first fell in love with the ocean on a class field trip to explore tide pools in third grade. Growing up she loved spending her weekends at the beach bodysurfing, swimming and exploring the rocky intertidal areas in Southern California. Mary learned to surf while working on her graduate degree in Biology at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo. She now surfs locally at spots like Spyglass, the Rock and Studios, and has traveled as far as Baja Mexico, and to Maui, Hawaii in search of warmer ocean temps and blue water waves.
Currently, Mary works for the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, and teaches field biology courses part time at Cal Poly. Her work keeps her busy studying the coastal creeks, rivers and estuaries from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara. She also is a volunteer interpreter at Lopez Lake, giving talks and facilitating activities to teach the young campers about the wildlife and ecology of the lake. Mary is on the board of directors for the Morro Coast Audubon Society, and the Friends of the Estuary at Morro Bay. Both organizations are focused on environmental education in her area. For fun Mary likes to surf, wakeboard, snowboard, play guitar and go bird watching with friends.
Mary seems to have limitless energy and is hands down one of the most cheerful, and positive people you will ever meet. Come to Hawaii this summer and meet her for yourself!
