Kristen grew up in the small town of Buies Creek, North Carolina, just south of Raleigh. She has been captivated by the ocean for as long as she can remember and spends every spare moment on the beach. She first learned to surf at age 15, when she attended Surf Camp at Wrightsville Beach. As soon as she stood up on her first wave, a smile spread across her face—and she hasn’t been able to stay out of the water since.

She returned to Surf Camp the following two years, trying out new locations in the Outer Banks and Australia. Since then, she has traveled to the North Shore of Oahu and stayed with surfer Suzy Stewart, aka “Sunset Suzy” and surfed with shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton.

Aside from surfing, Kristen loves working with kids and being around their contagious energy. During the school year, she coaches gymnastics and tutors kids with learning disabilities at her school. She will be a freshman at UNCW this fall, and is elated to finally be living at the beach.

Kristen seems able to see the bright side of every situation. She wants to share her jubilant spirit and knowledge of surfing with as many people as possible, and one day hopes to become a pro surfer on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
