Ellen Hannon
Certified Surf Instructor

Ellen grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and has always loved the ocean. As a child, her summers were spent surfing with her three brothers, tubing behind boats, body boarding, clamming, fishing, fishing, and crabbing. Her ties to the beach are what brought her to UNC-Wilmington in 2001 to pursue a career in teaching.

 Ellen now enjoys surfing with her husband, camping, fishing, canoeing, and hiking in the mountains. She has worked as a camp counselor at the YMCA, and as a lifeguard at a water park on the Outer Banks. Ellen works with exceptional children at Cape Fear Center for Inquiry. Her passion for teaching and love for children has now been extended to her two daughters, Miley, 8, and Piper, 2. She is a busy mom and loves taking her kids to the beach. She is raising her daughters to love and respect the beach and can’t wait to teach them how to surf. Ellen will serve as Surf Instructor during the 2009 season.
