Doug moved from Florida to Long Island with his family when he was in grade school. Initially, moving to New York came as a shock for Doug’s family, all of whom loved spending time outdoors, and at the ocean in particular. Luckily, Doug’s father, an all around great outdoorsman, continued to share his passion for the ocean even after the move.

As a child and young adult, Doug was treated to many amazing vacations on which he and his family searched for great waves, good fishing, unique cultures, and an escape from New York’s grey and chilly winters. Doug’s love for the ocean, surfing, and traveling has taken him all up and down the east coast from Cape Cod and Nantucket down to the Outer Banks and on through Florida, California, and Peru, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, St. Johns, St. Thomas, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Mexico (Cabo San Lucas, Sayulita.)

Throughout high school and college, Doug returned to work for the same company every summer. He began as a dock hand at Woodcleft Fishing Station and quickly excelled into a management position. Through his summer job Doug developed his people skills, met many great outdoorsmen, and continued to build his knowledge of the ocean and the outdoors.
