Ben’s love for the ocean began when he was very young, spending summers at the beach visiting his Grandma and with his family vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Swimming evolved into boogie boarding and boogie boarding evolved into surfing. In 2007, Ben graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelors’ Degree in Leisure Service Management with a concentration in Outdoor Adventure Leadership. Ben has 13 years surfing experience and has hunted waves up and down the east coast, as well as Costa Rica and Panama. In his teaching, he looks toward the ways everyday values intersect with the rules of the water. He has found that logical reasoning and decency towards fellow humans transfer from the land to the sea, and that to be a good surfer is in many ways the same as to be a good person. He strives to impart this philosophy to his students.

Ben loves adventure and enjoys sharing outdoor experiences with others. He has worked for Outward Bound, leading groups along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, and has taught all levels and ages of surfing students in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He has taught snowboarding in the Green Mountains of Vermont and has led a class backpacking trip to the Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains in the winter. Ben loves being in the water, and when he’s not surfing he can be found scuba diving or guiding rafts down the rivers Pacuare, Sevegre, and General in Costa Rica.
