Surf Camp Team
Rusty Ingold Smith
Guppy Camp Director
Rusty moved from the cold mountains of Vermont to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina in the fall of 2005 to be near the water. He loves the ocean, and he loves teaching people about the important role it plays in our lives.
When Rusty was 16, he got a job as a contractor for the United States Coast Guard, which allowed him to travel to incredible coastal areas such as Alaska, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. Through these experiences, Rusty gained an understanding of the connection between the people and the ocean.
Choosing to go to school near an incredible beach was an easy choice for him in attending UNC-Wilmington. Rusty knew he wanted to have a job with the environment, and specifically the ocean, so he received his education in Parks and Recreation Management and a minor in Environmental Studies.
Rusty is also an avid photographer who loves to watch the shore birds resting in the dunes at the beach. To him, there is no better place than the water at Wrightsville Beach!
