A large part of Rob’s life has been spent enjoying the ocean at Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. He received his first surfboard while in fifth grade and it was a day that transformed his life forever.

Rob loves the spirit of surfing and the flow of the surfboard. Big waves or small, long board or short, he gets the same satisfaction and joy from the connection to the ocean. He is truly grateful that he has the privilege to experience nature through surfing.

Surfing has influenced Rob’s life so deeply that he wants to share that impact with others, hence his enjoyment in teaching others to surf. His teaching interest began years ago when he shared his enthusiasm for marine science with elementary school children while volunteering. He thrives off creating a positive atmosphere where he can both motivate and encourage young surfers.

His chosen field of study at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill is chemistry and marine science. He feels this course of study is the first step towards achieving his goal of becoming a chemical oceanography professor. As an instructor of the marine sciences, he plans to pass on his enthusiasm for the world’s oceans. Through research and scientific study, he hopes to make a significant impact on the marine environment by helping to minimize humans’ impact on the ocean.
