Itinerary
Monday
As you see cross the dunes to the beach and see the WB Surf Camp tent and flags flying in the breeze, your excitement builds even more for your first day camp! During “Ground School” instructors will have you paddling, popping up, and learning to fall safely on your board before we even hit the ocean. You are provided with a safe 3:1 camper to instructor ratio, ensuring you receive personalized attention. You may stand up on your first wave, or it may take you a few tries; every person is different. Now you are well on your way to learning the skill set to become a lifelong surfer!
Tuesday
After a thorough stretch, we’ll spend a few minutes discussing wave dynamics and the different types of surf breaks, illustrating there’s more to being a surfer than riding a wave. You paddle out, instructor by your side giving words of encouragement, and when the moment’s right, you’ll feel a push and your board gliding smoothly into the wave as your instructor says “Pop Up!” You’ll practice sitting on your board and turning, a necessary maneuver when surfing.
Wednesday
Today’s discussion is about surfboard design, which gives a fascinating glimpse into the history of surfing. We’ll also learn how to properly care for our surfboards, demonstrate how to wax a board, and prepare a board for travel. As you’re paddling into waves today, you feel yourself getting stronger and your paddling improving. Your catching more waves today and getting a better grasp on how to read the waves.
Thursday
Your connection to the ocean has gotten so strong, and you’re truly realizing the importance of protecting our coastal environment. To enforce this, we’ll split into groups for a short beach cleanup followed by an assessment of what we find where some cool prizes are handed out to the winners. You may start paddling into your own waves today as you become more accustomed to timing and positioning. This is one of the more challenging aspects of surfing; the only way to learn it is with experience. Your instructor will provide coaching and encouragement as you work on catching your own waves.
Friday
We’ll round out the week with a discussion on surfing etiquette and the specific rules all surfers should follow. Surfing etiquette is a critical part of surfing that WB Surf Camp emphasizes in all our programs. Your final surf session is truly epic, all smiles and waves! You may even be riding down the line today! You have now surfed so much that your body is sore and your arms feel like jello! You are now part of the WB Surf Camp Family, and we welcome you back soon for more waves, friends, and fun!

Reviews
Abhijit, INDIA – “WB Surf Camp was the most amazing, incredible, exhilarating experience for me. It was great fun right from the beginning. Sea knowledge, safety, and awareness were really helpful. It was an unforgettable experience riding waves on the first day. I had been waiting for this camp almost since 6-7 months and it was well worth it. Iam from India, and this was something I could never learn in India. It was perfect start for me to explore the world of surfing.”
Penelope, Raleigh, NC – “For me, WB Surf Camp was the right choice to "learn the right way!" The location was perfect at Wrightsville Beach. The lead instructor was extremely knowledgeable, articulate, and led the group of instructors and students with ease. The entire group was fun to spend the mornings with to learn, support each other, and celebrate our progress. I learned so much more than I expected and value the ground school exposure to surf boards, surfing etiquette, surfing history, lingo, and ocean and beach conservation. It was a great use of my time and money delivering on the promise to get me surfing confidently. Loved it!”
Brittany, Springfield, VA – “WB Surf Camp was a great experience for me and my fiancee! We learned to surf together and will probably go surfing for our honeymoon and from here on after. I was impressed with the amount of information covered during camp and I felt like I was very welcomed into the surfing culture when I previously thought I would be intimidated by those who have surfed their whole lives! No one made me feel stupid. I felt inspired and encouraged and we will be lifelong surfers!”
Rosemarie, Quebec, CANADA – “My experience with WB Surf Camp was unbelievable. I had a lot of fun, I learned a lot and I really fell in love with surfing. I also learned things about coastal conservation, marine life, and ocean safety. So this camp wasn't only about surfing, it was also about the environment and the preservation of it.”
Jeff, Hampstead, MD - “I signed up right after I turned 41. We had snow on the ground and surfing was something I always wanted to do. I looked around and chose WB Surf Camp. Eight months later I'm on the beach and I'm pretty nervous- will this be everything I built it up to be? Will surfing be what I think/hope it is? Had a blast- Surf Camp is a misnomer. You don't just learn to surf, you learn about a lifestyle. Surfing- riding waves- was cool, a dream come true for me, but there is so much more that the instructors teach you. For me, this was a transformational experience. I'm a better person, better Dad, and better husband. This gave me a different perspective on life, and for that I'm truly grateful.”
Jane, Columbia, SC– “I had already taken some surf lessons, but I really liked the camp. The counselors were awesome and I learned a lot of new things. I hope to do more camps and become a counselor one day.”
Nansi, Centreville, VA – “My daughter began surfing at age 8 with WB Surf Camp. She had a great experience and a newfound love for the water. Later that summer she had a few spills and swore she would NEVER surf again. I put her back in camp the following summer. She was slightly anxious about doing the camp again. After the first day, she was back on the board and had gained her confidence back. I attribute the teaching skills and professionalism of the staff to helping her overcome her fear and find her love of surfing. Thanks WB Surf Camp!”
Gavin, Wilmington, NC– “This was a great experience for learning how to surf. I have a lot more confidence and know so much more about the sport. It was great fun too!!”
Diana, Buffalo, NY – “After I caught my first wave, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. The next day, I continued to smile when Ryan complimented me on my "pop-up" and asked me, "Are you a professional?”
