Charity Surf Camps - Aloha for UNCW Students
As alumni from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, we are very proud of our alma mater and its support of the community. UNCW has helped to educate, challenge, and form us as the people we have become. As graduates, we are also extremely familiar with the uncertainties that accompany freshman life. Therefore, we wanted to help make the transition to college life a more enjoyable process by offering complimentary surf instruction at UNCW’s Beach Blast.
On Tuesday, August 23rd we will be hosting a free surf and ocean safety camp at Wrightsville Beach from 11-3 pm. This is our way welcoming students into our community through a fun day of activities and surfing. As always safety is a priority in all of our programs, and we will pass along valuable our ocean safety knowledge to students since many come from beyond the coastal plain and are unfamiliar with the ocean.
After practicing skills in our “ground school”, we’ll transition to the water to experience the transformative powers of the ocean as students receive individualized attention from our professional, certified instructors. WB Surf Camp uses a progressional and proven teaching system that helps build confidence, provides personalized attention, and ensures safety and fun, all while challenging personal limits in a noncompetitive atmosphere.
It’s also a great sport for students to develop as it provides a means of stress relief from hours of studying and adds balance, both to the body and the daily schedule. Most importantly, we utilize this opportunity to educate college students about the many facets of ocean safety including how to identify and escape rip currents.
2011 will be our 7th consecutive year of being a part of this special day. Join us at Wrightsville Beach's Crystal Pier to welcome UNCW students; they are some of the newest members of our community.
